Juvenile Justice Programs
BAYS Juvenile Justice Programs provide community-based juvenile justice services for youth and families across Florida. Through guidance, intervention, and individualized support, we work alongside young people involved in or at risk of entering the juvenile justice system. In partnership with families, courts, and communities, BAYS helps youth build skills, strengthen relationships, increase accountability, and overcome challenges as they work toward greater confidence, stability, and long-term success.

Our Approach to Juvenile Justice
Hear from Sarah Cameron, Vice President of Juvenile Justice Services, as she shares how BAYS Juvenile Justice Programs support youth and families through individualized services, guidance, and opportunities for positive change.
Community Supervision Program
The BAYS Community Supervision Program (CSP) provides community-based supervision for youth placed on home detention, intensive home detention, and electronic monitoring through Florida's juvenile justice system. The program helps youth comply with court-ordered detention requirements, avoid new law violations, and successfully attend scheduled court hearings while remaining in their communities.
Community Supervision Specialists provide face-to-face contacts, compliance checks, and ongoing monitoring while working closely with the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, courts, law enforcement, families, and community partners. Most youth participate in the program for up to 21 days, receiving structured supervision designed to promote accountability, public safety, and positive outcomes.

Juvenile Diversion Alternative Program
The Juvenile Diversion Alternative Program (JDAP) is a diversion program that provides services based on individual youth and family needs. Generally, youth referred by the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) and/or approved by the State Attorney’s Office (SAO) are eligible for participation in the JDAP program. The targeted age group to be served is 17 and under, male and female.
JDAP concentrates on determining the needs of the youth admitted into the program, addressing those needs, then ultimately encouraging the youth to successfully complete the program while aiming to minimize their risk of becoming repeat offenders. JDAP strives to influence youth to remain crime free during their participation in the program and thereafter.

Youth Screening Program
BAYS Youth Screening Program (YSP) provides detention screening services at seven locations in Florida (Brevard, Orange, Sarasota, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, and Okaloosa counties) at either a local Juvenile Assessment Center or Juvenile Detention Center.
When a youth is taken into custody by law enforcement, detention screening staff are available to conduct a number of assessments to determine if the youth will remain in their community or be placed in secure care while pending their next court hearing.
In addition, the screening staff complete substance abuse and mental health assessments and refer youth and families out for additional services. It is a critical part of the juvenile justice continuum and in some instances, may result in a direct diversion to avoid further court processing. Our Youth Screening Specialists work closely with local law enforcement, DJJ, and court systems to promote public safety while ensuring a thorough assessment through a trauma-informed lens.
